Winter's Coming

Sorry, I haven't been updating lately. Just recently at work I thanked the woman who keeps track of our days off, for reminding me that I have 7 more days I haven't taken, and another 1 and a half personal days. I have been very caught up at work, I told her, yet at home I have home winterizing projects and personal creative projects I need to get to - we agreed, it's all about balance. So, today I put in for enough days off in the coming months that I will only work, every other week, for two days: Monday and Friday. For one thing, in twenty years I have had the same handmade (by me) curtains on my back windows, natural cotton muslin with a lace panel in the center of a silouette of two cats looking up at a moon...I designed these so the sun would peek through. But after all these years, many cats and dogs have torn the bottoms, and they've yellowed and browned at the edges. Last weekend I dug up several heavy vintage 40's bark-cloth curtain panels I'd bought on eBay and although they're not tall enough for my 11-foot ceilings, I've begun piecing them together to make two fantastic thick winter curtains for my back windows - and the pattern is so very beautiful...on a cream background, clusters of rusty brown tree shapes with sketchy dark cocoa leaves. My dad, who taught me how to sketch trees, would have loved these images.

I also want to hand-make a card to send to my Aunt Nancy, who lives alone. And my Aunt Frances who also lives alone.

I've been really good at work. Now it's time to concentrate on my life, before winter sets in.
